How I Made $907 In My Fifth Month Blogging
Every time I publish a new income report, I'm a little scared of what people might think.
I know that sharing your income online isn't a "normal" thing to do. I don’t want to come across as “flaunting” my results.
In reality, I’m trying to track my progress, be transparent about my online business, and hopefully, encourage you to start your own blog or website.
For example, if you wanted to become a travel agent, you could easily Google typical starting salaries or read comments from people who’ve worked at the company you're considering but if you’re trying to become a blogger - you’re in the dark.
I hope that these monthly income reports answer some of your questions and put you in the right direction.
Let’s get into it.
Here are a breakdown of my blogging income, expenses, traffic, and achievements from last month.
October in Review
On the personal side of things, October was a very busy month! I celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving with my dad at home, went on a road trip to Lake Placid, and will be moving to Poland next month for the foreseeable future. You can learn more about how I live in Europe as a digital nomad in this guide.
My main project in October was to launch a free eCourse and it went live! Build a Booming Blog is a 5-day free email course that essentially shows you how to build a blog from scratch and turn it into a booming business. In the material, I also share stuff like my 3-step formula for writing great content and my fail-proof affiliate marketing methods.
I also started offering blog coaching chat sessions in hopes of helping more people grow their blogs and online businesses. The sessions take place over Skype or Facebook Messenger, so everything is saved automatically in our chat history.
* I no longer offer the free eCourse or the blog coaching sessions, so these links have been removed.
October 2017 Income Report:
For the past two months, I've been traveling almost non-stop and as a result, I haven't had much time to write new blog posts or promote my content. But starting mid-November, I'll be back to "slow" traveling and should have more time to focus on blogging. As a result, I hope to get both my traffic and income numbers up next month!
Here is a breakdown of where I made money in October:
Blog Audits & Coaching Sales: $175
Advertisements: $61.63
Affiliate Commissions: $620.73 + $50 in credits
Airbnb: $20 credit
Bluehost: $510
Convertkit: $8.90
Ebates: $25
Fiverr: $15
Linqia: $35
Swagbucks: $24.20
Tailwind: $30 credit
Trusted Housesitters: $2.63
Total Income in October: $907.36
October 2017 Expense Report:
Starting this month, I will include my “big-ticket” expenses like blog hosting and social media scheduling tools, even though they’ve been prepaid for the year. I'm also including some office supplies that I purchased, which will make working remotely much more comfortable on my upcoming trip to Poland.
Blog Hosting: $7.90 (prepaid annually)
Tailwind: $10 (prepaid annually)
G Suite: $5
Portable Laptop Stand: $74.95
Total Expenses in October: $168.95
Goals for Next Month
Next month, I’ll be travelling to Poland and living there for a few months, so I hope to create more travel-related content.
The response I got from my most recent blog post, How to Live in Europe for $1000 a Month was unreal. I wasn't sure if my audience was even going to like it, but it ended up being my most popular post from the month by a landslide! So, you can definitely expect some more posts about being a digital nomad too.
I also want to work on updating, rewriting, and condensing some of my older content. Kind of like what I did with my tutorial on how to start a blog. I also want to continue to offer my blog coaching services and grow my social media following.
