October 2017 Income Report: $907 In My Fifth Month Blogging

Honestly, every time I publish a new income report, I’m always a little scared of what people might think. I know that sharing your income online isn’t a “normal” thing to do. And I never want it to seem like I’m just flaunting my own results.

I publish these income reports as a way to be track my own progress, be transparent about my online business and hopefully, help you start or grow your online business too.

You see, if you want to become a travel agent for example, you could easily Google their typical starting salary and commission. But if you want to become a blogger or online entrepreneur?

You’re in the dark. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll spend countless hours of research trying to figure out how much money you can actually make online.

So, I hope that these monthly income reports answer some of your questions about how to make money blogging, help you track your own progress and nudge you in the right direction.

Alright, let’s get into my October 2017 income report! Here is a breakdown of my blogging income, expenses, traffic and achievements from last month.

In this October 2017 blog income report, I detail exactly how I was able to make over $900 in my fifth month blogging. #incomereport #bloggingtips

What Happened in October?

October has been a very busy month! I celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving with my dad at home. I went on a road trip through Upstate New York and spent almost two weeks exploring the region.

Also, I’m officially moving Poland in November! I’ll be in Lublin for two months. If you have any recommendations for the city, please let me know. And if you want to know how I’m able to live in Europe as a digital nomad – without breaking the bankcheck out this post.

Besides all that, I made some great achievements with my blog last month too…

I launched a free eCourse: Build a Booming Blog

This was my main project in October. Build a Booming Blog is a 5-day free email course that essentially shows you how to build a blog from scratch and turn it into a booming business. In the material, I also share stuff like my 3-step formula for writing great content and my fail-proof affiliate marketing methods.

I had a lot of fun putting this course together and I can definitely foresee myself creating more of them in the future! So, if you’re the type of blogger who wants to inspire an audience and make some extra money online, you should definitely enroll. Did I mention it’s totally free?

I started offering: Blog Coaching Chat Sessions

In hopes of helping more people grow their blogs and businesses, I started offering a new blog coaching service this month. These casual yet super-informative blog coaching chat sessions can take place over Skype or Facebook Messenger.

I got the idea from one of my readers, who kindly asked if we could have a coaching chat over Skype during her lunch break at work. And it worked out very nicely. I was able to answer her questions more thoroughly and include links to relevant material for her in the chat. Plus, everything was automatically saved and easily accessible in our chat history.

So,  if you’re the type of blogger who could use an accountability buddy or someone to help them create a new strategy, then check out my blog audit and coaching services.

I read an eBook about blogging: Career in the Making

For the past few weeks, I’ve been hearing great things online about this new eBook by Krista Aoki of So, I decided to read it this past weekend, and… wow. I can’t even begin to describe how much valuable information is packed inside this nearly 100-page long eBook.

Inside, Krista breaks down the exact strategy she used to launch her lifestyle blog and make over $2,200 in the first six months. She includes screenshots, graphs and photos to help tie everything together. And the final result is gold, just pure gold. I would highly recommend this book to any new or seasoned blogger. October 2017 Traffic Report:

blog income report 2017

My monthly traffic was pretty much the same in September and October.

As always, the majority of my visitors came from Pinterest. Make sure you read this blog post to learn all about my Pinterest strategy. Facebook brought in the second highest amount of traffic – mostly due to my participation in Facebook groups.

Join my Facebook group here if you want to participate in my daily promo threads!

I was quite impressed with the search engine traffic I saw this month! If you’re struggling to master the art of search engine traffic, make sure you check out my beginner’s guide to SEO.

October 2017 Income Report:

For the past two months, I’ve been travelling almost non-stop and as a result, I haven’t had much time to write new blog posts or promote my content. But starting mid-November, I’ll be back to “slow” travelling and should have more time to focus on blogging.

As a result, I hope to get both my traffic and income numbers up next month!

Here is a breakdown of where I made money in October:

Total Income in October: $907.36

October 2017 Expense Report:

My “big ticket” blogging expenses like blog hosting and Tailwind were prepaid earlier in the year. Although I technically didn’t pay for them this month, I’m still including their monthly cost on the expense list.

I’m also including a couple “office” items that I purchased this month, which will make working on the computer much more comfortable for my upcoming stay in Poland!

Total Expenses in October: $168.95

Moving Forward:

Thanks for reading my October 2017 income report!

I hope you stick around to read some of the great content I have lined up for November!

The response I got from my most recent blog post, How to Live in Europe for $1000 a Month was unreal. I wasn’t sure if my audience was even going to like it, but it ended up being my most popular post from the month by a landslide!

So, you can definitely expect some more posts about being a digital nomad and living abroad in the near future!

I also want to work on updating, rewriting and condensing some of my older content. Kind of like what I did with my resources page and my tutorial on how to start a blog.

But most importantly, I want to help more bloggers create awesome strategies and reach their goals. Book one of my blog coaching services if that sounds like you.

That’s cool. I’m in my 10 month of blogging and I have made no money. Looks like you’e made a lot from you hosting company. Do you have a dedicated post to it or do you promote it another way? I haven’t made any money off of my hosting company.

Finding the right monetization strategy can be tricky. You could definitely try writing sponsored posts – your blog is perfect for that!

And yes, I promote Bluehost in several of my blog posts, like my tutorial on how to start a blog.

      Thanks for reading! 🙂

Affiliate marketing has proven to be a GREAT thing for my blog. And I make money by referring people to Bluehost. If someone clicks on my link and purchases a hosting plan, I get paid a commission. Hope that helps!

Love it! Thanks for sharing. I’m two months in to blogging and hope to be making income by month 3 so this is very inspiring to me. What was your strategy with Bluehost? I just launched a blog series with affiliate links for them and would love pointers for success there! Great post!

      Thanks for reading Meaghan!

I wrote a tutorial on how to start a blog from scratch and I get a lot of search engine traffic on it. Anytime someone purchases hosting through my link, I get paid a commission.

I think it’s important to share helpful content and to only promote products that you use (or would use) yourself! It comes off more genuine and your readers will notice! 🙂

I hope this doesn’t come across the wrong way, but is that your only blog? Did you just start blogging about blogging? Where does your experience come from? I am not saying that to be mean, just curious about how does that work… Otherwise, really great for you! I hope your site keeps growing!

No offense taken Lily! This is my only blog.

I used to work in digital marketing. I ran a company blog and social media accounts for a large travel agency. For the past two years, I’ve worked mostly as a freelance writer.

I decided to start this blog to share everything I know about blogging, working from home and travelling full-time! 🙂
