Welcome to my little slice of the internet!
I’m Maya and it’s great to meet you.
My passion for travel and my inability to sit still led me to create a location independent lifestyle, where I’m able to live and work from pretty much anywhere.
This blog is where I share my hard-won knowledge about blogging, working online and travelling full-time. My goal is to help other passionate individuals (yes, even you my friend!) build their dream life.
So, keep reading to learn more about this blog, my story and how I can help you achieve #allthethings that make you happy.
What’s your story, Maya?
I became enamoured with the idea of seeing the world from a young age. Growing up, I spent most of my summers in Slovakia – where my father was born.
And at the end of every summer, I would beg my parents to let me stay. I would ask my cousins to sign me up for school and refuse to pack up my belongings. How everyone put up with me, I’ll never know!
Luckily for my parents, this phase sort of died out once I became a little older.
I decided not to visit Slovakia the summer after graduating high school. I wanted to spend time with my friends and get ready for University!
Next thing you know I’m studying Communications & French at university and spoiler alert: didn’t find my calling. Most of my classes were online so, I took up a part-time job at a local travel agency. As it turns out, the office life is pretty cushy and there are some great perks to be had as a travel agent. I continued to work there even after graduating.
Fast forward a couple years.
My boyfriend and I managed to book off two months at work to go on a backpacking trip across Europe. We slowly travelled across 10 different countries and had the most amazing experience.
When I got back to work, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I became fixated with the idea of traveling full-time. I just had to figure out how to do it!
So, I did what any 21 year old would do. I googled how to make money online.
I read countless articles about freelance writing and made the decision to start an account on Fiverr. I put up a couple writing gigs and to be my own surprise, the orders started rolling in!
The minute my hard-earned money was deposited into my PayPal account, I quit my job. In the middle of my shift.
I went home and booked a one-way ticket to Serbia, the cheapest place I could find.
A week later, I was standing in my downtown Belgrade apartment.
It’s like someone hit fast-forward on my life.
In hindsight, I wasn’t totally prepared. For those first two months in Serbia, I lived off of my savings and credit. And I let the whole “being my own boss” thing get into my head.
I spent way more time exploring the city and cafe hopping than I did working. I put things off until the last minute. I would cancel writing projects if I felt like going out for the night instead.
But that didn’t last long. Once I saw how much money I had coming in versus out – I knew things had to change! I applied for more jobs, built a client base and started treating my work as an actual business.
I got into the swing of the location independent lifestyle!
Over the last few years, I’ve lived in places like Serbia, Romania, Ukraine and more! It’s been an incredible experience and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
And now? I want to help other people achieve the same thing!
I started this blog in June 2017 as a way to share my hard-won knowledge about growing a blog, working online and traveling. I want to help people build their dream life and do #allthethings that make them happy!
