7 Reasons Why You Should Start Blogging

June 15, 2017

Blogging is your answer.

If you want to work from home, start a side hustle, make new friends or travel the world – blogging is your answer.

Blogging has quickly become one of my greatest passions and I hope that by the end of this post, I can inspire you to start your own blog.

If you’re already feeling inspired, then you should head straight over to Bluehost and get your hosting! If you use my Bluehost referral link, it’s only $3.95 per month and you get a free domain! Seriously, you can run your own blog for less than the price of an iced coffee.

So, here are the reasons that I love blogging and why it might be just the thing you need in your life…

Why You Should Start Blogging

1. It’s So Easy

Starting a lifestyle blog requires very little experience, money and set up time. You can start a self-hosted WordPress blog, get hosting and start writing your own blog post in under 20 minutes.

Honestly, this is why so many people are starting blogs!

There is minimal knowledge required and a big chance of success. If you were to start your own brick and mortar business, you would require some substantial capital to get started. Renting a property, buying products etc. costs a lot of money. But with blogging, you can pay under $60 and it’s all set up for you.

Plus, anything you do decide to pay for can be found for really cheap online. Like beautiful themes for under $40 or a professional logo for under $5 – isn’t Fiverr the best?

2. You Can Make Money

I won’t sugar coat this part.

Blogging isn’t a get rich quick scheme.

It requires some hard work, but it’s possible. I was able to make a little bit of money within the first two weeks of starting my blog. And if you search for blogger income reports online, you’ll find a ton of success stories. There are bloggers out there who are making thousands of dollars each month!

Some of the most popular ways to monetize your blog are:

  • Affiliate Marketing. You can sign up for affiliate networks like Awin to connect with thousands of companies like Lonely Planet and Trusted Housesitters.
  • Referrals. You can refer your viewers to websites and earn a commission. I’ve had great success referring people to Ebates, Swagbucks, and Airbnb – which all happen to be websites that I personally love using.

And even though it might not make you enough money to quit your job right away, isn’t it a nice to get some extra income?

3. You Get to Work from Anywhere

Blogging gives you the freedom to work from just about anywhere there’s Wi-Fi.

This means that rather than getting a part-time job, you can spend more time at home, more time with your kids and more time enjoying life.

Take me for example. I make all of my income online and get to travel full-time. If I want to go and work by the pool all day, I can do it. I can live by my own schedule. This alone is a huge reason to start a blog. You can have the freedom to do anything you want.

Once you start blogging, you can use your awesome writing skills to take on freelance writing projects from websites like Fiverr and Freelancer. This brings me to the next point…

4. You’ll Develop New Skills

It’s almost like when you start a blog, you become a multi-tasking genius. No, seriously.

You’ll start learning about website hosting, content writing, search engine optimization, social media marketing, graphic design, community building and more!

And these skills are not only valuable, they’re transferrable. There are tons of businesses out there that are looking for people with this type of knowledge. And once you start blogging, they might start reaching out to you with job offers. Or you can even reach out to them and offer your services.

You might find that you’re passionate about one particular area of blogging, like graphic design. In this case, you can set up freelancing gigs and post ads on Craigslist to attract your own clients.

Your blog is like a visual resume, so make sure it highlights all of the things you’re great at!

5. You Can Help Other People

For me personally, the most important reason why I started a blog is that it gives me the chance to help other people.

When I was working full-time at an office, I wasn’t providing any value to others. I wasn’t changing or helping anyone. But once I started blogging, I became able to share my experiences and advice with people from all over the world.

And (I at least I hope that) my blog is a huge help to some of my readers. Even if I can help solve a simple problem, I feel fulfilled at the end of the day.

Can you say that about your job?

6. You Will Make New Friends

If you’re still in school, you might not think this point is a big deal.

But making new friends as an adult is kind of hard! Outside of work, it can be tricky to meet and connect with like-minded people.

Since I started blogging, I’ve met so many other bloggers who I consider to be my friends. The blogosphere is a big place and it’s full of people just like you.

It’s nice to know that there are people out there who understand your same blogging struggles and are willing to help you get through them all.

If you’re a blogger but you’re having trouble connecting with others, try joining some Facebook groups! It’s an awesome way to connect with other bloggers and share each other’s content.

7. You Can Improve Your Life

This is something that I realized recently. Blogging (and writing in general) has really helped reduce my stress levels. I find the whole process of designing my blog and writing posts very therapeutic.

In fact, there are tons of blog posts out there about how blogging has changed people’s lives. Just like this post by Abby from Just a Girl and her Blog.

Of course blogging isn’t going to cure your anxiety or make all of your stress disappear, but it’s a great way to take some time to yourself and focus on one thing.

Starting a blog is like taking on a new hobby. It can give you an energy boost and help you get through difficult times in your life. And as mentioned above, it introduces you to a whole world of other people – who are always there for you if you need to reach out.

Seriously, starting a blog has so many benefits.

I so agree with your reasons. I need a second job, but it needs to be flexible. Blogging sure won’t help you get rich quick, but it’s flexible!

Isn’t that the truth! There’s nothing like being in charge of your own schedule!

Yes to all of these! Only because I’ve become a full time blogger I can now move to a different country again! I came to the UK 10 years and it’s time to leave now – we’re moving to Prague (my boyfriend tomorrow and I’m in a couple of months!). If it wasn’t for blogging I definitely wouldn’t be able to do that! x

I started a Google blog and it links over to bloglovin it. I like opening up about things I’m passionate about. But what disappointments me is no feedback. I enjoyed your tips and tricks. However I’m still skeptical. How do I know if this is right for me and how soon would I see results?

Tammie, I totally agree that blogging is a great way to share your passions! And I’m glad that you enjoyed this post. If you want to get more feedback and engagement on your posts, you just need to put yourself out there! Promote your content on social media every single day. And learn how to implement keywords in your posts so that people can find them on search engines. If you want to send me the link to your blog, I’d be happy to take a look at it! 🙂
